The redesigned front section focuses on the characteristic BMW design features of the twin headlights and the BMW kidney grille, the reinterpretation of which emphasizes the upright stature of the vehicle and reinforces its presence on the road. Two-part headlight units are used for the first time in the new BMW X7. Outsourced horizontal LED light elements in the upper area of the front are responsible for the position and daytime running lights as well as the direction indicators. The LED units for the low beam and high beam arranged underneath, with their dark housing and the position deeply embedded in the front apron, recede into the background and only appear when they are activated. The new adaptive matrix LED headlights with glare-free high beam and adaptive light distribution now also take over the function of the fog lights with their automatic poor-weather light. Discreet waterfall lighting for the two elements of the BMW kidney grille ensures a particularly extravagant expression in the front view of the new BMW X7, both when stationary and while driving. The BMW kidney grille "Iconic Glow" is part of the standard equipment of the top model BMW X7 M60i xDrive and is offered as an option for the other model variants.
At the top of the drive portfolio is a new 4.4-liter V8 petrol engine for the top model BMW X7 M60i xDrive, which was derived from the engines of the high-performance models from BMW M GmbH. M TwinPower Turbo technology and a cross-bank exhaust manifold help the 390 kW/530 hp engine, whose maximum torque is 750 Nm, to deliver impressive power.
A straight-six engine of the latest generation makes its debut in the new BMW X7 xDrive40i. It has numerous innovations in the areas of combustion, gas exchange, valve control, injection and the ignition system, which increase both performance and efficiency. Compared to the previous model, the new drive generates maximum output that is 35 kW/47 hp up to 280 kW/380 hp and maximum torque that is 70 up to 520 Nm, which can be increased to up to 540 Nm by the additional output of the mild hybrid system can.
A detailed further development also optimizes the consumption and emission behavior of the in-line six-cylinder diesel engine in the new BMW X7 xDrive40d (combined fuel consumption: 8.7 - 7.6 l/100 km; CO 2 emissions: 230 - 200 g/km according to WLTP ; Information according to NEDC: –) is used. The maximum output of its drive system is 259 kW/352 hp. The nominal torque of the diesel engine is 700 Nm and can increase up to 720 Nm with the additional output of the mild hybrid system.
The most important thing the three engines have in common is the integration of a new generation of 48-volt mild hybrid technology. The latest form of this type of electrification consists of a crankshaft starter generator integrated into the transmission and contributes an additional output of 9 kW/12 hp and an additional torque of 200 Nm. All engines are now combined with an 8-speed Steptronic sports transmission including shift paddles on the steering wheel and a sprint function. Your power is transferred to the road via the BMW xDrive intelligent all-wheel drive system and, if required, also to unpaved terrain.
