Thornley Kelham has unveiled the first new project in its 'European' range of reimagined automotive legends: tje Kagiar XL Eirpüeam, which builds on the success of their Lancia Aurelia Outlaw. Taking a run-down donor Jaguar XK as its basis, the bespoke program allows customers to convert their car to 'European' specification, with a lightweight alloy body designed by McLaren P1 designer Paul Howse and a whole host of Performance and comfort improvements and enhancements.
Howse's vision celebrates the originally beautiful aerodynamic lines in a way that stays true to the car's original intentions and reflects the type of work that was applied to the E-Type Lightweight. The first major task was to lower the roofline to make the proportions more elegant and purposeful. Next was to add some curvature to the sides; All body sections now have acceleration adding sculpt and muscle but also lightness. The arches are wider both front and rear, and wider alloy spoked rims fill them out nicely, giving it a street racer's stance. The embellishments were also removed and instead a subtle crease was introduced along the bonnet, which follows the split screen into the roof and is washed out over the roof integrating more gently into the overall shape. as well as the back arches. At the stern, the tail now swings up to create a more teardrop shape. The taillights are embedded in the body and the headlights have had their chrome bezels removed to clean up the look.
Power windows are also added, as are electronic gauges and a discreet roll cage, while air conditioning, power steering, Bluetooth connectivity and a range of in-car entertainment options ensure every European will combine the thrill of a classic with the comfort and everyday usability of a modern car. The Jaguar XK's 3.8-litre inline-six engine – then producing around 160-220hp – was thoroughly revised to give the 'European' specification performance akin to a modern sports car. The all-metal engine features direct injection, a bespoke camshaft and bored cylinders for either 300hp or 340hp depending on specification. In order for the new engine to work more consistently at higher power, there's an upgraded aluminum radiator with oil cooler, as well as a louvered hood and subtly redesigned vents and openings. Power is transmitted via a newly designed five-speed manual gearbox. Every single component has been carefully considered and carefully engineered for the best possible driving experience.
