The new Renault Mégane E-TECH Electric is the first to introduce the sensational “Sensual Tech” design with the new Renault logo on the front and rear. Features of the Mégane E-TECH Electric are sensual style elements such as the muscular rounded shoulder area, the drawn-in flanks and the contoured bonnet. They are complemented by striking high-tech details such as micro-optical LED light strips at the rear or the large OpenR screen in the interior. Thanks to the lower cooling requirement of the electric drive, the designers were able to create a largely closed front. Another feature: the door handles, which are integrated flush with the body, open automatically as soon as the driver approaches. The external appearance is completed by borrowings from the world of crossover models. Depending on the equipment, these include 18 or 20-inch wheels, the high belt line and protectors on the wheel arches and vehicle flanks. The roof, which is curved towards the rear, is reminiscent of a coupé.
Air inlet openings located far on the outside, which direct the air flow around the tires and prevent aerodynamically disadvantageous turbulence on the vehicle flanks, as well as the narrow wheels increase aerodynamic efficiency and reduce energy consumption.
Renault offers the Mégane E-TECH Electric in two drive variants with 96 kW / 130 PS and 160 kW / 218 PS. Both electrical units are designed as separately excited three-phase synchronous motors. The advantages are the wide range of services and high efficiency. In addition, separately excited motors do not require any rare earth metals for magnets, which reduces the environmental impact in production. Thanks to their optimized design, the motors are compact and weigh only 145 kilograms including the gearbox. Their torque of 205 Nm and 300 Nm is available practically from the start and enables powerful acceleration. The top engine of the Mégane E-TECH Electric sprints from 0 to 100 km / h in just 7.4 seconds.
The regenerative braking strategy also contributes to the high efficiency of the Mégane E-TECH Electric. The driver can choose between four recuperation levels from level 0 (no recuperative braking) to level 3 (maximum recuperation).
