The new BMW M2.

At the front of the vehicle, the large, frameless BMW kidney grille with its horizontal bars and a three-part lower air intake with almost rectangular contours ensure a typical M appearance. The design is based on the technical requirements in the areas of cooling air supply and aerodynamic balance. The side view is characterized by clearly designed surfaces, wide side skirts and muscular wheel arches. The rear of the new BMW M2 also appears powerful and compact. The striking spoiler lip on the luggage compartment lid and the vertical reflectors set their own unique accents, as does the puristically designed diffuser insert in the rear apron and the two pairs of tailpipes on the exhaust system that are positioned far inwards.
Typical M performance characterizes the version of the in-line six-cylinder engine with M TwinPower Turbo technology and high-revving concept designed for the compact high-performance model. The 3.0 liter unit differs only in a few details from the engine used in the BMW M3/BMW M4 series and impresses with its spontaneous response, high revving ability and a linear power development up to the maximum load range. With a maximum output of 338 kW/460 hp, the drive of the new BMW M2 exceeds the basic engine of its predecessor by 66 kW/90 hp. It makes its maximum torque of 550 Nm available between 2,650 and 5,870 rpm. The new engine achieves its maximum output at a speed of 6,250 rpm, its maximum speed is 7 200 min. The spirited power delivery is accompanied by an emotionally powerful engine sound, which is generated by the M-specific exhaust system with electrically controlled flaps. Like the cooling system, the oil supply is also designed for particularly dynamic driving situations when used on the race track.
As standard, the drive torque is transmitted to the rear wheels via an 8-speed M Steptronic transmission with Drivelogic. Its particularly high shift dynamics, its direct connection to the engine and the option of performing multiple downshifts down to the lowest drivable gear create the ideal conditions for fascinatingly spontaneous acceleration manoeuvres. It is operated via a gear selector switch in the current M design and shift paddles on the steering wheel. The Drivelogic offers three switching programs to choose from. A 6-speed manual transmission is available as an option for a classic-style performance experience with particularly intensive interaction between driver and vehicle. It supports a sporty driving style not only with precisely defined shift travel, but also with a shift assistant, whose connection speed control ensures slip-free engagement after downshifting when braking before corners. If necessary, the shift assistant can be deactivated in the M Setup menu. With the 8-speed M Steptronic transmission, the new BMW M2 completes the sprint from a standing start to 100 km/h in 4.1 seconds; in conjunction with the 6-speed manual transmission, the corresponding value is 4.3 seconds. Acceleration from zero to 200 km/h is possible in 13.5 seconds (automatic transmission) or 14.3 seconds (manual transmission). The top speed limit of the new BMW M2 can be increased from 250 to 285 km/h by choosing the optional M Driver's Package. If necessary, the shift assistant can be deactivated in the M Setup menu.
